All articles published in our journals are open-access and freely available to readers without incurring any subscription fees. In order to continue with this open-access model and maintain publishing quality, authors are required to pay Article Processing Charges (APCs). These charges cover the costs associated with processing manuscripts, including peer review, copyediting, typesetting, and publishing, as well as expenses for maintaining online tools for editors and authors, journal hosting, abstracting and indexing services, and customer services. APCs are applicable only to authors whose manuscripts are successfully accepted after peer review. The APCs, payable before publication, can be charged to either the authors, their funders, institutions, or employers.
The APC for the JOR and JOBM journals is €1,500. Authors who wish to request a waiver of the APC for their manuscript may submit a written application to the journal. The application letter must state the reason for the waiver (e.g., lack of relevant funding support) and the specific amount requested, and must be signed by all authors. The scanned copy of the application should then be sent to the journal’s email address (JOR:
Question and answer (Q & A)
When will I be notified of the request to pay APC?
An APC invoice will be sent to the authors after their manuscripts have been accepted. Articles will only be published after the APCs have been paid.
When do I pay?
Authors are required to clear the APC payment before the invoice is due (generally, an APC invoice is due within 14 days after issuance). Typically, the invoice will be addressed to the corresponding author(s). In any cases that the payer’s details should be amended, please inform our editors via email.
How can I waive the APCs if I am underfunded?
APC waivers may be granted at the sole discretion of the Publisher. The JOR and JOBM editorial departments will consider such requests from authors on a case-by-case basis.
Please write to the editorial office to inquire about the APC waivers while making the new submissions. Nevertheless, authors are advised to ensure they have sufficient funds to cover the APC prior to making new submissions as APC waivers are not commonly granted.
What is your APC refund policy?
The JOR and JOBM editorial departments will refund the paid APC if an article fails to be published due to an error made by the publisher. The paid APC will only be refunded if a correction to the error is not executed within 30 days of publication.
Please contact the editor if an error requiring our immediate attention surfaces. (JOR:
APCs will not be refunded if articles are retracted due to the author’s error or misconduct.
